Dear Parishioners,
September is moving right along, and this past week our campus was buzzing with the formation of disciples of Jesus Christ. From 5-year-olds to 90-year-olds, different groups and communities gathered to grow in their love for God and one another and to allow their hearts and minds to be expanded by God’s grace, wisdom and love.
It brings me great joy to see the deep hunger for faith that is present in our parish community. As Catholics, we are blessed with such a rich foundation of Scripture, tradition, liturgy, prayer and the teachings of the Church, all of which invite us to go deeper into the mystery of our faith and, ultimately, into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and one another.
If you are not engaged in some way, I encourage you to take a step. Reach out to a fellow parishioner, try something new and be willing to enrich the journey of faith for yourself and your family. There are numerous faith formation opportunities on our campus, as well as resources such as FORMED and Hallow. You might also begin reading a good spiritual book or studying the Bible. Growing in our knowledge of the faith helps open our hearts to wisdom and, most importantly, helps us become better disciples of Jesus.
This past June, I had the privilege of celebrating Mass at the altar where Padre Pio offered his last Mass in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy. The beautiful mosaic surrounding our Confessional Chapel was inspired by an image in the church there and reminds us of Padre Pio’s ministry of reconciliation and God’s abundant mercy. I invite you to join us for the 9:00 AM Mass on Wednesday, September 23. Following Mass, there will be an opportunity for a special blessing with the glove worn by Padre Pio. May his intercession help each of us entrust our struggles, suffering and needs more completely to Jesus.
As our parish continues to grow, with more weddings, young families and baptisms, we also want to celebrate the beautiful vocation of marriage and family life. One way we will do this is by offering a special blessing for expectant parents several times throughout the year.
On Sunday, September 27, at 9:00 and 11:00 AM Masses, we will invite all expectant parents to come forward so that our parish family can pray over them and the new life growing within their families. We will ask the intercession of Saint Gerard Majella, patron of expectant mothers, childbirth and children. What a beautiful witness it is to see family life flourishing in our parish! Every new life is a gift from God and a sign of hope. As a parish family, we want our young families to know that they are welcomed, loved, supported and accompanied as they seek to build homes centered on Christ.
Each day, I am filled with gratitude to God for the many ways I witness His love and kindness at work in our community. Often, it is in the simple, day-to-day moments that we see God providing strength, healing, friendship and hope. What a blessing it is to be on this journey together keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, trusting in the Father’s love and allowing the Holy Spirit to work within us. May we continue to grow together in Christ and help one another become the disciples He calls us to be.
